On Saturday, Aug. 24, the Lake Forest High School Boys Varsity Soccer team will be hosting its annual alumni game/fundraiser, “The Christopher Quon Alumni Game,” at Varsity Field, West Campus. The game is named in honor of Chris, a LFHS 2005 graduate and varsity soccer player, who unexpectedly lost his life from heart failure at the age of 22 in 2009.
The game — featuring dozens of alumni, including teammates of Chris — will be held at 5 p.m. All levels of boys soccer will also be playing their kick-off Blue/Gold games prior to (starting at 3 p.m.) and following the Alumni Game. From 3-6:15 p.m, a raffle/auction will be held and proceeds will be donated to the Christopher Quon Foundation.
Auction prizes include packages from local businesses such as The Beauty Spot, Body Fixx, Forever Om, Kiddles, Lake Bluff Brewing Company, Midtown Athletic Club and the Mustard Seed; a football autographed by members of the 1985 Super Bowl Chicago Bears team; tickets to Bears, Bulls and Fire games; tickets to the Broadway Musical “First Date” in New York; tickets to the Orange Bowl; a spa treatment at the Trump Hotel; a year of Garrett Popcorn; an autographed Chicago Red Stars jersey and soccer ball; Habitual Denim jeans; a private yoga party; wine — and more. In addition, all raffle items are provided by many generous businesses in the community.

The foundation was established as a tribute to Chris by using the funds to support all that Chris loved and cared about so deeply. A varsity athlete in high school and at Colorado College in both soccer and lacrosse, Chris used his sports whenever he could to help others less fortunate than him. As Chris did, the foundation supports organizations that 1) are committed to fighting cancer, 2) use sports to develop young people, and 3) help disadvantaged young people especially in the areas of sports, music and travel. The CQF also honors Chris by annually giving back to his two alma maters with scholarships.
Chris played in his only Alumni Game in 2009. He never left the field and it was a night the Quon family will always remember. The Quon family is grateful that the high school team has chosen to honor Chris with this special Alumni Game for the past four years.
With the help of the LFHS Boys soccer team–Chris’ spirit of giving will continue.
All are encouraged to attend to enjoy a game under the lights, support the LFHS teams as they kick off their new season, cheer on the LFHS alumni — and most of all, help others through supporting the foundation.
