The first annual Chris Quon Memorial Lacrosse Game was held Saturday, June 14th at Lake Forest College’s Farwell Field. Thirty-five Lake Forest High School Varsity Lacrosse alumni, whose graduating classes ranged from 1990 to 2014, participated in the event in loving memory of Chris Quon (LFHS ’05), a dear friend and teammate to many Lake Forest lacrosse alumni. All proceeds raised from the event were donated to the Christopher Quon Foundation, which was established to contribute to the organizations and institutions that Chis loved. Several members of the Quon family were in attendance, in addition to families and friends of the individuals playing in the game.
The event was a very fitting way to preserve Chris’s memory. As a varsity athlete at both the high school and collegiate level, Chris used sports to help and show his support for others. While at Colorado College, Chris organized a community soccer tournament fundraiser called “The Answer to Cancer” as a sign of support for his two family members and close friend fighting cancer. The tournament, now called the “Quony Cup,” is still played every year in Chris’s memory and donates its proceeds to the American Cancer Society, an organization in which Chris believed deeply.
The Chris Quon Memorial Lacrosse Game acknowledges not only Chris’s love for the sport of lacrosse, LFHS, and his teammates, but also Chris’s selfless spirit. The alumni who participated in the game all greatly enjoyed the opportunity to continue Chris’s legacy as a thoughtful friend, supportive teammate, and overall caring individual.
Special thanks to Lake Forest College for the use of their facilities, and to all of those who came out to remember Chris.
